This weeks challenge is to portray "Patience", many images come to mind, but on the weekend we took a detour off the sealed road to take a short cut to Mannum, well we would come over a rise and there would be another stretch of road in front of us (we did not know how the distance we had to travel). My thoughts were on the loneliness and patience women must have had in the outback before the days of modern transport.

Fun challenge to use squares and circles. So what did I do, first I created a background from squares and circles and also a black and white polka dot pattern. I enjoy the colour challenges and this made me think as I have not done any colouring on sepia or black and white photographs. The image I used was from Shutterstock, it is not a vintage photograph but made to look that way. I have posted two images as I had a little play with the "render" filter. Not sure if the colours are really pastel, but I used the pallette and then did things so I think the colours got a bit more intense.

Here is another image using the supplied photograph, I changed the background with a vector created wall paper.

Number 13 congers up a variety of images, I have chosen two ways the first is the number itself and it is a part of the Fibonacci spiral also know was the Golden Circle, secondly thirteen has it place in mythology and the lunar cycle that relates to fertility and the menstrual cycle. So these are incorporated into my image.

No doubt some of my friends will recognize the canvas designs on the wall, this was an excellent medium for these designs.

There is so much interesting information on Greed, especially Dante's Inferno, where those guilty of greed have the punishment of being weighed down and bound to the ground. Well I never knew about the history of Elizabeth Bathory, a dark period in Hungarian history. I have depicted her as a woman covered in blood (well she did bathe in blood).
Credits - portrait of Lucrezia Panciatichi from Dian, who bears a similarity to a portrait of Bathory. One of the problems of using portraits is that the resolution is difficult to work with, so in this case the portrait has been altered to represent Bathory. Google images of women in Caravaggio paintings, especially the hair from "Medusa", one that I have in my library from a previous challenge and a Cassatt painting.

A very interesting challenge to take the image below and create a theme. I wasn't sure of what I would do, so I went surfing through Google and found a delightful photograph of Gladys Cooper in the play "Chalk Garden". So I have combined this with the room from last week and played with some blending. You may need to click on the image to enlarge it for some finer details.

The children have a message for the people in the room. "Do as we say, before you to dissolve into the walls of this room." Not sure if this is a macabre threat or a warning to prevent them from disappearing.

Three wonderful images to play with, I used two the pond and the lupin. Added my swagman (tramp) image from Wikipedia. What I have in mind is the return of the swagman to the billabong as a ghostly image. For our overseas visitors Wikipedia has the history of Waltzing Mathida on which I have based my collage.

During Summer, as a part of my on going course with City Guild I took leaves from a garden plan and did a rubbing on hand dyed organza with a white Shiva paint stick, well I have finally completed one of the rubbings. The organza is overlayed on hand dyed silk, batting and silk is again used on the backing, one final piece of organza on top completes the quilt sandwich with free motion quilting.

I knew I had the perfect setting for Ursula(our girl in the hammock). One of the beauties of age is experiences that we can draw on. Many moons ago I sailed with my second husband from Australia to San Diego, so I thought Ursula would be at home in the South Pacific.

I have had my eye on the tutorial for awhile, so this the chance to try it out. As I use PSE9 and it was written for CS I could not achieve all of the magnificent manipulations, plus I have made changes so I do not have a one for one copy. I have turned to Greek Mythology for this weeks theme and have based my design on Aphrodite and her son Eros being rescued by two fish who were placed in the heavens to honor their heroic deed of saving them from Typhon on the river Euphrates.

Rick gave us a great old house to play with this week. My design is titled "Waiting for Him to Come Home". The figures on the porch are my husband in this military uniform, our cousins grandson, and my Grandmother. I have applied a texture background with colour and a photo I took of the moon. I have also used the Artistic filter/watercolour.

I think I was influenced by the recent death of another Australian soldier in Afghanistan. The dove is a symbol of peace.
